Restriction on School Transport Vehicles Violating School Bus Guidelines
A clampdown against school transport vehicles was launched by the Regional Transport Office for not following guidelines of state's new policy on school transportation.
The district administration prohibited the use of autorickshaws and vans in transporting schoolchildren from December 1. Also RTO issued directives to install speed governors GPRS machines, and follow all the policy guidelines.
After inspection, 290 school buses of 30 different schools were found to be violating the policy. Most of those buses were not installed with GPRS, speed governors, emergency exits, and door locking system.
Dipty Ranjan Patra, RTO, claimed that strict action will be taken against schools who fail to follow guidelines and a deadline of 15 days will be given to every schools to adhere to new guidelines.
Transport officials said that the school buses violating the new guidelines will not be allowed from December 31.
