Mumbai’s Bus Operators Honour Schools and Drivers for Ensuring School Bus Safety
Mumbai's bus operators have decided to honour policy makers, schools, drivers, and school bus attendants for ensuring school bus safety. This initiative was taken in response to poor implementation of school bus policy happened seven years ago by the Maharastra Govt.
As part of this decision, the School Bus Owners Association (SBOA) has been instructed to conduct a survey to identify individuals who go beyond their duty to ensure student safety. They will be awarded 'Excellence in Child Safety and Caring Principals' on Feb 7.
Individuals will have different categories for awards such as fitness and maintenance of school buses, drivers who have an accident free record for the last 15 years, schools with maximum number of buses, etc.
Anil Garg, president of SBOA, mentioned that it was the first time that such a survey took place to monitor school bus safety and catalogued awards for that. And he added that even now there was no strict policy taken to prevent illegal vans carrying school bus children.
With the co-operation from school authorities, the association plans to convey safety messages to students. A short film has been made for students to respect school bus attendants.
