Criminal Cases Against Vehicles Owners Who Violate School Bus Policy
Pune: It was a shocking incident when fourteen year old Raj Kamble fell off a moving school bus in Charholi. There was recently an issue where nine school buses were vandalised as an outcome of a fight between eight people.
Taking into account these unsafe situations, the Regional Transport Office has requested district school bus committee headed by the commissioner of Pune police, Rashmi Shukla to file a case against the owners of vehicle that transport children by violating school bus policy norms.
After the incident of the child who was killed while travelling in school bus, has shocked the city and forced the authorities to be more vigilant. Now stern steps are taken to check if any of the school bus policy norms are violated.
It is common for private owned school buses and other vehicles to cram children into the bus. These unsafe means have cost the life of children just because vehicle owners are careless.
“The action being initiated right now against the violators is not enough and it seems that the rules are not being taken seriously. We have requested the committee to take stricter and criminal action under IPC sections against the violations which, we feel, can act as a major deterrent,” told B I Ajri regional transport officer of Pune.
RTO officials told that several letters about stricter action were sent to the education department earlier. But there aren’t ample safety measures that are taken by school vehicles to safely transport children to and from schools.
“A major drive of checking all the vehicles ferrying students will be initiated but we need to strengthen our basics first. It is our request to the education department to act tough when it comes to schools which are not following norms or forming transport committees,” Ajri said.
The safety of children is of paramount importance especially in a bustling traffic. It is important to enforce laws that ensure the security of each child. Taking into account the dreadful incidents that has happened in the past this is an enormous move that will pin down the vehicle owners who doesn’t give much importance to child safety.VN:F [1.9.16_1159]
