Smart Move, Delhi: Rented Bikes to have GPS Installed
New Delhi: The two-wheelers hired through the newly-introduced bike-on-rent facility in the national capital will be installed with Global Positioning System (GPS). This will help to track the vehicles.
Inspired by Goa, the government introduced bike-on-rent scheme that will be accessible on rent at metro stations, ISBTs, railroad stations and vital spots over the capital.
"In order to ensure safety for those using this facility, Government has decided to make the installation of GPS mandatory in rented bikes," a senior government official said.
The authority said that without GPS in bikes, government won't issue license to the organizations, the candidate is additionally needed to submit character verification certificate of self and staff working under him from Delhi Police.
"Through GPS, Government can track the movement of those riding rented bikes in case anything goes wrong. At the time of hiring bike,one will be required at bike counters and thereafter, they would be given the bike on rent," official also said.
As per the authority, permit conceded or renewed will be valid for the time of five years from the date of grant and renewal.
"The licensees have been directed to maintain a data base of the license and proof of address of the hirer of the motor cycle for a period of one year," official added.
